We’re still alive, we just don’t have reliable WiFi. And I accidentally burned through an entire month’s worth of data in our first two days here, an extremely costly mistake. So now I’m having to ration my data, which means I have it turned off at all times unless I have to look something up on the map or TripAdvisor or the Tube app. The WiFi in our flat is out tonight so I’ve turned on my data very briefly just to say hello.
Hello!
We’re having a beautiful time together here, and today was an especially good day – breakfast at a French café chain called “Paul” (how could we not go there?), several hours at the National Gallery (with a break for lunch at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Café in the Crypt), and an absolutely breathtaking performance of “Les Miserables.” Our hearts are so full.
Thank you to everyone holding down the fort back home so that we could be here!
You’re welcome. We’re happy you’re happy. You all look fabulous!

I’m glad to hear that things are going well. The news has been carrying the story of the heat wave hitting Europe so I’ve held you in a cool space in my thoughts and prayers. Enjoy this incredible experience together!

What is that blue vest-like garment Paul is wearing? If it’s just a fashion choice, I apologize for asking

Haha! Not a fashion choice – it’s a small daypack. One of those that folds up into its own pocket. I’m very happy to have brought it so he could carry his notebook and jacket without lugging a full-on backpack around.

I really like the backpack! What brand? where did you purchase it?

I’m so sorry I missed this comment until now! I got the backpack at REI last summer, and the brand is Sea to Summer. It’s coming in very handy!

I also went to England, which is a long way away from where I live. I live in the United States in Charlotte, NC.
England started out as a short stop in London while eventually ending up in Bristol. During the stay in Bristol, there were day trips to scared and spiritual places like Stonehenge and Tintern Abbey among others. I was in England for a pilgrimage- the adult choir at my family church was singing for a week at Bristol Cathedral. We still started in London- I heard the people sing during that short stay. My family went up two days early, and my mom and I saw Les Mis, a dream of mine.

St Martin-in-the-Fields is such a visually simple breath of fresh air after all the overly ornate cathedrals. Lauren attended Christmas Eve service there a few years back and felt the same way.
